Believe it or not, these ratings are accurate and honest. You see, the new CEA standard for ratings forces all companies to rate their amplifiers exactly the same way. This way, when you compare amps, you are always comparing apples to apples. Part of the CEA standard is to rate the wattage at I believe .1% THD. For this reason, this is why the wattage rating drops as the impedance drops, simply because at a lower impedance, the THD increases.
